We were delighted to host a General Election Hustings meeting at Lakeland Livestock Centre on Tuesday 3rd December.The event was presided over by Chairman of Directors Ian Powley, the three election candidates present were: Sue Hayman, Labour; Julia Aglionby, LibDems and Mark Jenkinson, Conservative.
The three Candidates presented their parties manifesto pledges on Agriculture, Farming and rural issues. Following the presentations questions were invited from the floor, there were wide ranging covering food security, cheap food policy, environmental concerns, climate change and forestry. The proceedings were summed up by Head of Land Agency Andrew Wright who commented, "change in farming was inevitable regardless of Brexit due to climate change and the environmental lobby. Mitchells are well placed to offer not only an excellent livestock mart facility but a profesional services department that can assist clients through the changing times". Ian Powley commented "we were pleased to see a good turnout of clients who raised concerns on many issues".
