Farm  & Environment  Adviser

Job description:

Mitchells Auction Co. Ltd. is a long-established auctioneering firm (established 1873) with  a modern livestock market and associated rural professional services based at the Lakeland Agricultural Centre, Cockermouth.


Based in our Cockermouth  Land Agency office an opportunity   has arisen for a Graduate Adviser, to join our  team of dedicated,  friendly, environmental professionals to work closely with the rural community to find workable solutions.


We are looking  for a passionate  agricultural environmentalist  who is  mindful of sustaining the local economy. There will be an opportunity  for you to  make  a difference to our farmer client base,  post Brexit.


You must be well organised, have good time management skills and be able to jump between projects as necessary. You will be proactive,  enthusiastic and eager to play a part in a growing team.


You will need to provide:



  • A good all-round knowledge of the  modern agricultural industry, its statutory legislation and government bodies.
  • Experience in the delivery of carbon foot printing / carbon management projects across a range of  agricultural sectors.
  • Knowledge of various woodland  grant schemes extending into  carbon  trading.
  • Understanding of new and old environmental stewardship schemes and topics such as air quality, climate change adaptation and resilience.
  • The ability to contribute to our  teams work on the new  Sustainable  Farm Incentive and Environmental Land Management Scheme as well as all other anticipated transitional  grant schemes




  • Experience in renewable energy or financial aspects of carbon management
  • Knowledge of business planning  & resilience work
  • Experience in carrying out on farm visits
  • Ability to nurture new clients and  work out of  hours if business needs require



Other skills:

  • A degree / post-graduate qualification(s) in a relevant discipline
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate at all levels
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Good numerical analytical skills, including the use of Excel and other tools
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively
