Scalderskew farmhouse is a traditional Cumbrian dwelling, constructed of stone under a slate roof. The external elevations of the farmhouse have been roughcast. The accommodation briefly comprises:
Ground Floor – Kitchen; Living Room; parlour, pantry.
First Floor – Three bedrooms; Bathroom.
The farm has mains electricity, the water supply is a natural spring supply, the drainage is a septic tank system.
Attached to the farmhouse there is traditional stone barn under an asbestos roof, this building contains three byres and a loose box the barn is part lofted. Attached to the southern elevation there is a lean-to of similar construction to the house this building contains sheep handling and dipping facilities.
There is a further range of farm buildings around the concreted and stone yard comprising; workshop and general store; general store; loose box and open fronted general store.
A steel portal framed barn (60’X30’) with block walls, weather board sides and under an asbestos cement roof. There is a 2 bay implement store lean-to. Attached to the barn there is a 3 bay open fronted store area, box-profile sheeted under an asbestos cement roof.
There is a field shelter/store situated in field parcel 0499. Constructed of timber and profile sheeting with an earth floor.
The Agricultural Land
The land at Scalderskew is a mixture of permanent pasture and rough grazing. There is approximately 30 Acres of in-by grassland and 17 Acres of rough grazing around the steading. Parcel 1076 is approximately 50 Acres of enclosed fell. There is a natural supply of water. The boundaries are predominately post and wire fencing.
Fell Grazing Rights
Scalderskew Farm has grazing rights on the following fells:
Stockdale Moor - 380 Ewes and 133 Hoggs
Kinniside Common - 80 Ewes and 8 Cattle
Ponsonby Fell - 8 Cattle
The grazing on Stockdale Moor is managed by the Stockdale Commoners Association. The Moor is in a Higher-Level Stewardship Agreement, this agreement is due to end in 2020 or may be extended.
The grazing on Kinniside Common is in an Uplands Entry Level and Higher-Level Stewardship Agreement managed by Kinniside Commoners Association, this agreement will end in 2022.
