Ian was born in Penrith and went to school in Carlisle but spent most of his youth on his Uncle's farm near Mealsgate. On leaving school he spent ten years on farm work with a break for college at SAC Ayr.
He joined Carrs Farm Foods in 1985 and became Regional Branch Manager for Carrs Billington in 2000 moving to Cockermouth in 2003.
Outside of work he helps his son Steven to run a beef and sheep farm near Armathwaite selling store cattle and lambs at Mitchells Auction.
He is married to Sue and together they enjoy travel, music and dancing and are involved with local shows, YFCs etc.
