Arlecdon village developed in the 19th Century and it sits on the edge of the Lake district, itself edged by both fields and fells. Nearby is the beautiful Ennerdale Water. It has direct access onto the Whitehaven to Ennerdale Cycle path which is a 10-mile surfaced cycling route utilising the old network of tramways and railways that was used in the 1850s to carry the coal from the area back in the 1850s. These are a wonderful way of exploring the area and seeing the architecture of old stations and some fascinating sculptures fashioned from equipment that is no longer used. The wonderful Ennerdale Brewery is nearby in Rowrah, which has a licenced restaurant serving excellent food and of course real ale.
