Annual Lakeland Prize Show & Sale of Mule Gimmer Lambs

20th September 2019

Mitchells Auction Mart conducted its Annual Lakeland Prize show & sale of a catalogued entry of 10,415 Mule gimmer lambs on Friday 20th September.  The pre sale show was expertly judged by Mr Norman Story, Fell End and Mr Allan Collette, The Cheviots with two sections to place; the large breeders and small breeders.  The sale was kindly sponsored by Carrs Billington, Paul Chuter, Armstrong Watson Accountants and Hundith Hill Hotel.

Championship rosette and the Johnny Matterson Memorial cup was awarded to a wonderful pen consigned by Messrs Allan, Greenhow Farm, Dufton. Reserve honours were presented to the second prize large breeders from Messrs Folder, Wescoe.  Mr Tim Reed, Moss Kennels whom judged the best run and awarded it to J & W Bell, Highfield.

The sale then followed with all runs of lambs looking their best and impressing a well travelled auction of prospective buyers which were hugely impressed with the quality of breeding from all consignments.  Trade was very pleasing on the face of Brexit, with all types of lambs having numerous bidders on each lot.  Both tuppers and runners selling exceptionally well.  Sale average was £77.60.
