Two arenas with in-the-round bench seating for presentations, conferences, talks, demonstrations and performances:-
Mitchells has substantial outdoor space available which enjoys an open outlook to the Lake District Fells. The spaces can be used either partly or entirely for parking or as outdoor display or demonstration spaces as required:-
Our in-house Fairfield Restaurant is rated by farmers as one of the best in the North of England.
We serve hot, hearty meals including Cumbrian specialities such as Cumberland Sausage and Tatie Pot, as well as lighter snacks and salads.
Antique Dealers and private buyers alike tell us that Mitchell’s in-town saleroom is without doubt one of the most atmospheric in the country. Occupying a refurbished cattle market, the octagonal auction ring, surrounded by tiered wooden bench seating, conjures up the atmosphere of a bygone age.
It is not only suitable for the sale of antique furniture and fine art but also provides an ideal and highly atmospheric auditorium for evening talks, lectures, exhibitions and demonstrations with high quality, on-site catering facilities if required. The adjacent gallery spaces are spacious and atmospherically lit providing a high quality setting and pleasant ambience for the viewing of exhibition and display materials.

Mitchells has many years’ experience hosting events, shows and festivals of all shapes and sizes, from small scale markets to classical music concerts to national weekend festivals attracting thousands of visitors.
Our experience, efficiency and flexibility as a venue combined with our renowned helpful and friendly approach helps alleviates stress and worry for event organisers leaving you free to concentrate on the content of your event rather than worrying about the details of the venue.
But don’t just take our word for it. Here are some testimonials from satisfied clients who have used Mitchells as a venue for several years:-
“Woolfest is a national, annual weekend festival celebrating sheep and wool and all aspects of natural fibres. We now attract over 4000 visitors a year and Mitchells location and building have played a big part in that success. But it’s the people at Mitchell’s that really make the difference, from the cheerful support during a frantic set up to the patient help on car parking and all the grotty and hidden jobs in between, we’d struggle to run Woolfest anywhere else.”
Marion Woolcott, Event Organiser, Woolfest
“Fell Gather regards Mitchell’s Lakeland Livestock Centre as the ideal venue for our annual Festival of Food and Farming. Being situated just off the A66, the site is easy to find for visitors and has the added attraction of ample free parking. Visitors are impressed with the many on-site facilities such as easy access to electricity points and there is the added benefit of a café and bar where good quality food and drinks are available. Being entirely undercover means that adverse weather conditions are never an issue to contend with and never threaten the success of the event.”
Roy Jenkinson, Event Organiser, Fell Gather
