‘Tommy Baxter’ Show and Sale of Store Cattle

The Tommy Baxter Show and Sale of 1303 top quality store cattle again proved to be a resounding success. The standard forward was a credit to all vendors who were justly rewarded with a packed ringside of prospective purchasers in attendance. 

The Show was kindly sponsored by Hundith Hill Hotel, GT Tyres, Brockbanks Solicitors and Carrs Billington. Judging was in the capable hands of Mr Michael Wynne, Miss Ellie Wynne and Miss Rachel Graham. An outstanding show was forward to compete for the Mr & Mrs T Baxter Trophy. After some deliberation the Championship was awarded to the first prized Haltered Limousin Heifer from RW&JH Emmott, Wythop Hall which later sold for the days’ top price of £2600 to Mr Lee Hopwood. Reserve honours went to Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh with their British Blue Heifer sold for the days second top price of £1650 to Messrs Barnett. 

Outwith the Show a great days trading was conducted with purchasers commenting on the super quality on offer and vendors going home delighted with their returns. A Limousin Heifer from AG&KF Nicholson, Swinside End sold to £1520. Steers topped at £1325 twice; firstly for a Charolais from T Trafford & Son, Peter House and then again for a Limousin from Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh. Store Bulls topped at £1400 for a Limousin from G Fearon, Hollows Farm.
