On Wednesday 15th July 2020 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 60 cattle comprising 42 cull cattle and 18 prime bulls and clean cattle, 2196 prime sheep including 1498 prime lambs and 698 cast ewes and rams.

Again the cattle ring was very well supported with extra buyers and orders in attendance. Leading the way once again was Messrs Fell Stanger Hill whom has returned to support this ring having been pleased on numerous occasions his Limousin cow made £1282.38 (174ppk).

Leading dairy cow price per kilo was JN & FC Walker, Harrington Parks at 138 pence. Leading price per head in the dairy section was from Bowness Farms, Threapland Lees achieving £1054.69.

The live ring is being well supported allowing stronger returns throughout prime to feeding type cows are wanted on a weekly basis.

Prime Sheep

1500 prime lambs forward today and trade remaining at recent high rates leaving vendors delighted. Top price of £130 for Texel Lambs from TW Johnstone, Briary Bank purchased by Wilson Willis Butchers, Cleator Moor. Top pence per kilo was 279.5p for Beltex Lambs from Messrs JC Hope & Son, Corn How.

Throughout the sale 24 pens of Lambs sold in excess of £120.

A good entry of 698 cast ewes easily handled with ewes continuing to be a strong trade. Top of £125 for a Texel ewe from MJ Reed, Orchard House. Fell ewes topped at £67 for a pen of Swaledales from B Mansergh, Sneckyeat.
