Store cattle
A seasonal show a simply marvellous trade leaving vendors delighted. All classes very good to sell with keen competition to a top of £1310 for a pair of cracking Angus Steers from M Irving & Sons, Weary Hall, Mealsgate. The same good home also sold Limousins to £1270 and Friesians to £1090. British Blue Steers to £1200 from RS&E Gate, Nr Branthwaite Edge, Workington and Beef Shorthorns to £1190 from R&E Richardson, Burnt House, Wasdale. Heifers topped at £1120 for a pen of 3 Black Limousins from E Gray, Grange Farm, Aspatria.
Next fortnight sees the special August Sale of Store Cattle. Entries invited to the office with Vendors encouraged to make use of the current strong demand.
Steers – Angus- 1310(2) Weary Hall. Limousin- 1270 Weary Hall, 1155 Grange Farm, 1145 Hilltop, 1050, 1040 Mid Farm, 1045(2), 1010(4) Ullock Farm, 1040, 1020 Bracken Howe. British Blue- 1200, 1190, 1155, 1090 Nr Branthwaite Edge, 1135, 1085 Syke Beck, 1125(4), 1120 Town Head, 1115, 1080 Fairladies, Beef Shorthorn- 1190, 1090(3), 1040(2) Burnt House. Blonde- 1090 Townhead. Friesian- 1090(2) Weary Hall.
Heifers – Limousin- 1120(3) Grange Farm, 1100 Bracken Howe, 1050 Bolton Wood Lane. British Blue- 1040 Syke Beck, 955 Fairladies. Angus- 960(2) Ehenside. Beef Shorthorn- 940(2) Burnt House.
Store Cows: - Blonde- 900 Low Godderthwaite. Montbeliarde- 760 Outgang. Ayrshire- 715 Outgang.
A small entry of Breeding Cattle a wonderful trade with plenty of demand. Top of £2000 for a British Blue Cow with Limousin Bull Calf from RA Rawling, Overcroft.
Cows with Calves at Foot-
British Blue- 2000 Overcroft. Parthenais- 1650 Outgang. Belted Galloway- 1600, 1020, 1000 Hollin Head.
Stirks again finding ready homes and looking a strong trade upto £600 for a 4 month old Limousin Bull from Messrs Hetherington, West Moor End.
Stirks – Limousin- 600 West Moor End. British Blue- 575, 465 West Moor End.
The sale of 1521 Store Lambs saw a good entry sell to another fantastic trade averaging £69.02. The days top price was a whopping £100.50 paid for a pen of 10 Beltex Lambs from RM Wilson, Dockray Nook, Lamplugh. Others to £95.50 & £95 for Beltex Lambs from JR&CJ Ward, Whitestone Hill, Lockerbie. Beltex Lambs in keen demand to average £86.95.
Texel Lambs sold to £87 from I&G Lister, New Monkwray, Whitehaven. A good show of Mule Wethers topped at £69 for a strong pen of 60 from W&PA Walton, Low Kinmont, Corney with others to £68 for J&E Nichol, Whinnerah, Gosforth.
