On Wednesday 26th August 2020 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 48 cattle comprising 33 cull cattle and 15 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1724 prime sheep including 1187 lambs and 537 cast ewes and rams.

Prime Bulls again a strong trade upto 216p from D&MA Wilson, Lamplugh Hall. Top gross of £1390.72 also from D&MA Wilson, Lamplugh Hall.

A plainer show of Cast cows again a marvellous trade. Top of 220p for an OTM Heifer from W&PA Walton, Low Kinmont which also achieved £1245.20. A Charolais Stock Bull achieved top gross of £1328.40 from GW&PA Scott, Crooklands. A Fleckvieh cow from BW Hewitson, Shatton Lodge sold to £1219.78. Black and Whites upto 140p for a Friesian Cow from JH Fell, Gutterby Farm. Top gross for Black and Whites £930.24 for a Friesian from JC Farries & Son, Stainburn Hall.

Prime Sheep

Sell live and thrive as prices today far in excess of deadweight reductions quoted earlier in the week.

Fewer lambs forward but those vendors who braved the weather were richly rewarded with trade soaring to average an impressive 220.5ppk.

A full market average of £94.90 with 87 pens of lambs selling at £100 or more.

The days top price of £139 was paid for a 53kg Texel Lamb from Messrs Holliday & Graham, Bolton Wood Lane purchased by Wilson Butchers, Main Street, Egremont. Many pens of Butchers Lambs sold in excess of £130 with others to £137 from G Gate, Hollins Farm purchased by Haighs Butchers, Workington.

Top pence per kilo honours went to J&JK Spedding, Salter Hall with Texel Lambs selling to 279.16ppk purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butcher, Cockermouth.

More Mule lambs coming forward topping at £104 twice, firstly from AG&KF Nicholson, Swinside End and then again from A Fearon, Kirkland House.
