Annual show & sale of Mule Gimmer lambs Friday 18th September

18th September 2020

Mitchells Auction Mart conducted its Annual Lakeland Prize show & sale of a catalogued entry of 10,180 Mule gimmer lambs on Friday 18th September.  The pre sale show was expertly judged by Mr Thomas Hird, Westray Farm & Mr Antony Spencer, Vicarage Farm with two sections to place; the large breeders and small breeders.  The sale was kindly sponsored by Carrs Billington, Armstrong Watson Accountants and Hundith Hill Hotel.

Championship rosette and the Johnny Matterson Memorial cup was awarded to a wonderful pen consigned by RW & JH Emmott, Wythop Hall. This pen of lambs also received the Martyn Mawson Memorial Trophy for the highest placed NEMSA bred lambs.  Reserve honours were presented to AG & KF Nicholson, Swinside End Farm for the second pen of large breeders. Mr Ian Cousin, Gill Cumber Edge whom judged the best run and awarded it to T Trafford & Son, Peter House.

The sale then followed with all runs of lambs looking their best and impressing a well travelled auction of prospective buyers who were hugely impressed with the quality of breeding from all consignments.  The most notable lift in trade was the running type lambs being very easily cashed, these lambs were in the late £80 early £90’s.  The full sale average was an outstanding £98.15.
