Friday 16th October 2020 Lakeland Suckled Calf Show & Sale

16th October 2020

The Annual Show and Sale of Lakeland Suckled Calves saw a fantastic entry of Calves assemble to attract a super ringside of buyers ensuring all classes sold hugely dearer on the year producing an average some £141 up on the year.

The show was kindly sponsored by Dodd&Co Accountants, Fulton Land Rover, Rickerby Ltd, Macmin and The North West Limousin Breeders Club. Judging was in the capable hands of Mr John Dixon Junior, Thursby who had a super show before him. After some deliberation he awarded the Fulton trophy for Champion Suckled Calf to Mr Matthew Benson, Horrace Farm, Ulverston. This tremendous Parthenaise Heifer later sold for the days top price of £1550 to Mr D Barker. Reserve honours went to GD Strawson, Muncaster Head Farm, Eskdale with a marvellous Charolais Steer which sold for £1070. Limousin Heifers topped at £1200 from S Hardisty & Son, How Hall, Ennerdale. Limousin Bullocks sold to £1155 from W Atkinson & Son, Demesne, Whitehaven with others to £1140, again from S Hardisty & Son. Fantastic consignments of Charolais cattle were good to sell topping at £1100 for a Heifer from AD Teasdale, Doddick, Threlkeld. Suckled Bulls topped at £1025 for a Limousin from Messrs Crozier & Langcake, High Moss, Bassenthwaite.

The day was a complete success with buyers delighted with the quality on offer and vendors justly rewarded going home overjoyed with their days trading.

The second suckled calf sale will be held on Friday 6th November. Vendors can enter cattle with confidence to the office on 01900 822016.
