On Wednesday 28th October 2020 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 41 cattle comprising 29 cull cattle and 12 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1652 prime sheep including 1252 lambs and 400 cast ewes and rams.

The days’ top price of 216p was paid for a Limousin Heifer from T Trafford & Son, Peter House. Top gross of £1312.25 was paid for a Limousin Bull from D&MA Wilson, Lamplugh Hall.

Cows topped at 150p or £997.50 for a Limousin from T Trafford & Son, Peter House. Black and Whites upto 122p from Messrs Cook, High House or £818.40 from JD Hetherington & Son, Blue Dial.

Prime Sheep

A marvellous trade was achieved being far in excess of vendors expectations. Well fed lambs commanding a premium.

The days’ top price was a whopping £141 for a supersonic Beltex lamb from Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh purchased by regular supporter Wilson Willis Butchers, High Street, Cleator Moor. Pence per kilo honours also went to Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh topping at 305.3p. This great consignment of Beltex lambs averaged £113.62 or 265.17p.

Texel lambs topped at £130 from Messrs Fraser, High Flatts, also purchased by Wilson Willis Butchers.

A good entry of Mule lambs looked the trade of the day topping at £96.50 for a pen of 30 at 51kg from J Stobart, Howbeck Lodge, Hesket New Market.

Herdwick lambs topped at 200ppk or £70 for a ring full from K Wrathall, Cockley Beck. 200ppk was also achieved from R & A Maxwell, Howside with a pen of 43 lambs weighing 31kg.
