Suckled Calves

The Second Sale of Suckled Calves attracted a keen ringside with great prices achieved. Top of £1080 for an 8m old Limousin Heifer from L Hardisty, How Hall. Steers topped at £905 for a 7m old Limousin from AJ&JM Fell, Mosedale End.    

Steer:-  Limousin – 905, 890, 875, 860 Mosedale End, 870, 865(2) Manesty, 850, 785(3) Langley Farm, 790(2) Strudda Bank, 775 Old Scale, 765 Burnthwaite. British Blue – 805, 800, 790(3) Hill Top. Angus- 760(2), 700(2) Ehenside.

Heifer :-  Limousin – 1080, 840, 780 How Hall, 740(3) Strudda Bank, 725 Mosedale End. Blonde d’Aquitaine – 870, 730, 725 Mill Farm. British Blue – 800, 785, 720 Hilltop, 765 Hinning House. Charolais – 740(2) Muncaster Head, 710(2) Strudda Bank.

Bull:-  Limousin – 720 Moor House. Hereford – 700(7) Bridge End.

Store cattle

An improved entry in terms of quality and quantity were well bid for producing a cracking trade. Top of £1335 was paid for a British Blue Steer from Messrs Nevinson, High House. Limousins to £1260 for a pair and £1255 for a trio from PE&M Capstick, Whicham Hall. Heifers topped at £1190 for a Limousin from RJ Powell, Brimmer Head with others to £1185 from BW Noble, Gibbtarn.

Breeding Cattle

The highlight of the sale came in the form of a run of wonderful In Calf Heifers presented for sale by Chris Walton and Family of Low Kinmont, Corney. This exceptional run of Limousin and British Blue crosses attracted many admirers being due to calve to the Limousin Bull through December and January. The packet was topped at £2900 and went on to average a staggering £2000.

Store Lambs

A small entry of Store Lambs sold to another fast trade being very good to sell and in keen demand. Top price of £108 was paid for Beltex Lambs from J Walker, Far Reach who also sold others to £104 and went on to average an impressive £90.71. Horned lambs topped at £62 for a pen of Swaledales from RC&PE Beard, Rannerdale with Herdwicks to £56 from Messrs Balnd, Clea Hall.
