On Wednesday 23rd December 2020 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 1601 prime sheep including 1454 lambs and 147 cast ewes and rams.

Prime Sheep

Prime lamb trade electric being the dearest trade witnessed this back end. Vendors leaving well and truly in the Christmas spirit with a lamb trade bonanza. The days top price of £144 was paid for a Texel lamb from A&D Smith, Kelmore Hills purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butcher, Station St, Cockermouth. Others to £143 from Messrs Nevinson, High House purchased by Lancashire Direct Halal. Pence per kilo honours went to I Powley, Green Marsh achieving 307.9ppk.

Mule lambs topped at 231.5p from P&PI Walker, Beechcroft or £107 from A&D Smith, Kelmore Hills.

Ewes a flying trade being much dearer than anticipated. Many more could have been well sold and are required each week. Top of £166 for Texel Ewes from FA&J Stockdale, Crosshow Farm, Dearham. This cracking consignment of ewes averaged a staggering £151.50. Fell ewes topped at £71 for a pen of Swaledales from J Pattinson & Son, Uldale Hall with others to £70 from Segbushwell.

Texel ewes averaged £107.52.

Swaledale Ewes averaged £60.30.
