Store Cattle

Store cattle sold to strong rates with impressive returns achieved. Top of £1335 for a Limousin Heifer from Messrs Crowe, Hall Santon, Holmrook who also sold another to £1325. Blue Heifers to £1325 from Messrs Trafford, Ullock Mains, Ullock. Steers topped at £1325 for a Limousin from MI&M Palmer, East Townend, Workington and also £1325 for a Limousin from W Sharpe, Woodend Lodge, Lamplugh. Native cattle to £1235 again from W Sharpe, Woodend Lodge, Lamplugh.

Next week Friday 15th October is the Annual Lakeland Show and Sale of 700 Suckled Calves. Friday 22nd October is the next fortnightly sale of store cattle. Entries to the office by Friday 15th please.

A small but quality show of breeding cattle sold to £1700 twice, firstly for an Angus Heifer with Beef Shorthorn calf from N Race, Penny Hill, Eskdale and then again for a Hereford Heifer with Limousin calf from MI&M Palmer, East Townend, Workington.

Store lambs maintained high rates being another wonderful trade. Top of £100 for Texel tup lambs from Messrs Branthwaite, Eskett View, Arlecdon. Breeding sheep topped at £170 for Texel Shearlings from S Spear, Wright Green.

Swaledale Rams

The annual show and sale of Swaledale Rams was sponsored by Mitchells Auction Co and judging was in the capable hands of local stocksman Mr George Crayston, Calderbridge. After conducting a thorough job the Willy Gill Trophy for Champion Ram was presented to S Hardisty & Son, How Hall, Ennerdale. This super Shearling later sold for the days top price of £2,000.

Reserve honours went to Messrs P&PI Walker, Beechcroft, Mockerkin with a 2 Shear which later sold for the second top price of £1800.

Quality Aged tups were in keen demand and topped at £1700 from I&OM Wilson, High Beckside, Mungrisedale.
