On Wednesday 16th March 2022 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 66 cattle comprising 59 cull cattle and 7 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1265 prime sheep including 1032 hoggs and 233 cast ewes and rams.
Prime cattle topped at 264ppk for a British Blue steer from JA&CM Brown, Park House, Isel. Bulls topped at 242p for a Limousin from TA Byers, Ellenbank, Boltongate or £1594.60 for a Charolais from the same good home.

Cow trade is phenomenal. Prices even dearer than last weeks blistering rates being the dearest ever seen. Top of 216p for a Limousin from WH&F Wood, Well Head, Dean. Others to 210p twice for Limousin feeders from J Clark, Bent Ash, Eaglesfield.
Friesian cows also surpassing last weeks record trade topping at 191p for a 4 year old from J Pattinson & Son, Uldale Hall, Wigton who sold 6 year olds to 188p. Holstein Friesian cows to 188p from B Burrough, Waites Farm Pardshaw and also from R&M Allison, Barnyard, Greysouthen. Holstein Cows also to 188p from JD Hetherington, Blue Dial, Allonby. Native cows to 184p for a Longhorn from Brownrigg Hall Farms, Allonby.
Top gross for cows was a Holstein Friesian at a whopping £1579.20 from R&M Allinson, Barnyard, Greysouthen. Others to £1566.40 from CW&DE Bushby, Watson Hill, Egremont.
Limousin Cows averaged 194.5ppk.
Friesian cows averaged 172.5ppk.

Top of £179.50 twice, firstly for a Texel from Messrs Fraser, High Flatts, Gilcrux and then again from G Gate, Hollins Farm, Eaglesfield both purchased by Tony Harrison, Butcher, Main Street, Cockermouth. Beltex to £175.50 from A&D Smith, Kelmore Hills, Workington purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butcher, Station Street, Cockermouth.
Top pence per kilo was 390.2p for Beltex hoggs from I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle.
Fell hoggs topped at £107.50 for Swaledales from R Brown, Forge Farm, Eskdale. Herdwicks to 251.2p or £105.50 from Churchstile Farm, Wasdale.
