On Wednesday 22nd June 2022 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 56 cattle comprising 43 cull cattle and 13 prime bulls and clean cattle,1089 prime sheep including 755 lambs, 42 hoggs and 292 cast ewes and rams.

 

Prime bulls topped at £1454.64 for a LimousinxFriesian from Messrs Bowe, Hunday, and per kilo at 235p for a LimousinXFriesian from J Pattinson & Son, Uldale Hall.

 

Prime Bull (Top price per kilo – pence):-  Limousin – 235, 234, 230 Uldale Hall, 233, 227 South View, 228 Hunday Farm. Beef Shorthorn - 234 Lowside. British Blue –230, 229, 224 Lodge Farm, 219 Lowside. Norwegian Red – 197 Hunday.

 

Prime Bull (Top price per head - £):-  Limousin – 1454.64 Hunday, 1385.28, 1304.25, 1150 Uldale Hall, 1246.55 South View. Beef Shorthorn – 1450.80 Lowside. British Blue –1300.72, 1254.40 Lodge Farm, 1208.88 Lowside Farm.  Norwegian Red – 1142.60 Hunday. 

 

Cows sold to a whopping trade being as dear as has ever been witnessed. Top of 244p or £1798.28 for a Limousin from I & R Millard, Old Hyton, Bootle.  

 

Black and Whites to a humungous £1682.45 or 211p for a British Friesian cow from J C Farries & Sons, Stainburn Hall, Workington. This superb trailer load averaged a wonderful £1451.38 or 203.7ppk.

 

Holstein Friesian cows sold to £1599.80 from R&M Allison, Barnyard, Greysouthen. 198p achieved by H Thompson, Springfield Farm, Bigrigg.

 

Native cows sold to 214p or £1583.60 for a Belted Galloway from EPM Lawson, High Boonwood, Gosforth.

A larger entry of 755 lambs forward sold to another strong trade pleasing vendors. Top of £190 for a Texel lamb from G Wilkinson, Arkleby House, Aspatria purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butchers, Station Street, Cockermouth. Others to £184 for a Texel from G Gate, Hollins Farm, Eaglesfield purchased by Tony Harrison, Butcher, Main Street, Cockermouth, Top per kilo was 388.9ppk for a Beltex lamb from WW&D Boow, Corney Hall, Bootle also purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butchers, Cockermouth.

Cast ewe trade on fire again. A good show of ewes sold to a very dear trade. Top of £218 achieved twice; firstly for a Texel from G Wilkinson, Arkleby House, Aspatria and then again for a Texel from M&L Peile, Holly Barn, Wigton. Others to £212 for a Texel from KA&R Campbell, Corrow Farm, Lochgoilhead. Fell ewes to £98 for Herdwicks from G Tyson, Skelsceugh, Frizington. Cast rams sold to £191 for a Texel from RW Carr, Croftside, Egremont.

 

Many more ewes could be well sold with a bumper trade being achieved week after week.
