On Wednesday 17th August 2022 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 55 cattle comprising 49 cull cattle and 6 clean cattle, 1514 prime sheep including 1038 lambs and 476 cast ewes and rams.
Messrs H Thompson, Springfield Farm topped the clean cattle section in both pence per kilo and per head with a Limousin Steer at 243ppk £1691.28 being purchased by G Chapman.

A good show of cows forward sold to a scintillating trade with some phenomenal returns achieved.
Top of 243ppk for a super Blonde cow from WCG Holdings, Eirinntalla, Ennerdale.
Top gross was an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Hutton, Springs Farm, Keswick selling totalling a monumental £1952.28.
Limousin cows topped at 221p or £1721.04 from AR Hardy, Eastlands, Workington whilst British Blues sold to 218p from WCG Holdings, Eirinntalla.
British Friesian cows topped at a whopping 200ppk from JN&FC Walker, Harrington Parks, Harrington. Top gross was £1435 for a Holstein Friesian from Dundraw Farms, Wigton who’s super trailer load averaged £1373.55.
Cast Bulls sold to £1849.12 for a Charolais from W Rawling & Son, Hollins Farm, Ennerdale.
Cow trade here at Cockermouth as good as anywhere with many more required to satisfy buying demand.

Top of £158 twice; both times for Beltex lambs from S&D Peile, Parkgate Hall, Wigton both purchased by Tony Harrison Butchers, Main Street, Cockermouth. Texel lambs to £150 from T Greenbank, Bank House, Wigton purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butchers, Station Street, Cockermouth.
Top pence per kilo also came from S&D Peile, Parkgate Hall at 336.2p. Other Beltex to 333.3 from TH Craig, High Farm, Blindcrake.
