A wonderous entry of quality Lakeland Mule gimmer lambs attracted a huge ringside of buyers from the length and breadth of the country. The standout trade of the season was witnessed being absolutely sublime and justly rewarding vendors for their efforts.
The pre-sale show was superbly judged by Mr Andrew Cook, Widcot Farm and Mr Jim Finlayson, Old Cluden, with Mr David Benyon acting as referee. The sale was kindly sponsored by Carrs Billington, Hundith Hill Hotel, Lakeland Trailers, and Services and Agri Lloyd.
The NEMSA Championship rosette and the Johnny Matterson Memorial Trophy was awarded to a wonderful pen consigned by Messrs Folder, Wescoe Farm, Threlkeld. Reserve honours were awarded to the 2nd Prize Large Breeders pen from Messrs AG & KF Nicholson, Swinside End Farm, Lorton. The Jim Peet Trophy and Agri Lloyd products for the best run of lambs, judged by Mr William Hird, Town Head Farm, was awarded to Messrs AG & KF Nicholson, Swinside End, who’s run of lambs averaged £133.52 for a catalogued entry of 700.
Messrs Stobart, Howbeck Lodge, kindly offered a Mule Gimmer Lamb from amongst their run for the charity which is close to their heart the Specialist Palliative Care, NHS North Cumbria. This lamb was offered for sale 6 times and accumulated a wonderful amount of £2470.
The Mart Average was £117.53.
