Store Cattle

 

Strong well fleshed cattle continued to be good to sell whilst weathered types proved harder to cash. Top of £1585 for a Limousin Steer from Messrs Crowe, Hall Santon, Holmrook. Native steers to £1385 for an Angus from W Sharpe, Woodend, Lamplugh whilst Heifers topped at £1305 for a Limousin from GA Stamper, Row Brow, Dearham.

A mixed show of store lambs forward topped at £116 for a wonderful pen of 28 Beltex lambs from WH&F Wood, Well Head, Dean. Fell lambs sold to a top of £69 for Swaledales from CI Todd, Kirkgate, Loweswater.

Breeding sheep maintained high rates achieved all season at this centre with a full ringside of buyers in attendance. Top of £220 was paid for a pen of 10 Charollais X Beltex Shearlings from J Wilshaw, Oulton Hall, Wigton. Mule Shearlings sold to £185 for a pen from GM Sibson, Burnside Park, Keswick.

Swaledale Rams

 

The Annual show and sale of Swaledale Rams was expertly judged by Mr George Wainwright, Bamford, Derbyshire. After some deliberation the Cathow Memorial Trophy for Champion Swaledale Ram was awarded to AG Todhunter, The Beeches, Hesket New Market which later sold to the judge for £450. Reserve honours went to WE&BE Wilson, Undercragg, Mungrisedale selling for the days top price of £1,000.
