Market Report for Friday 14th October 2022 – Show and Sale of Suckled Calves
On Friday 14th October Mitchells held their annual Lakeland Show and Sale of Suckled Calves with an entry of 604 catalogued. A sale with a nationwide reputation, the quality of the calves on offer continue to attract purchasers from far and wide ensuring the best calf trade of the season.
The show was kindly sponsored by Fulton Land Rover, Macmin, Dodd & Co Accountants and the North West Limousin Breeders Club. Judging was professionally carried out by newly married Sarah Bland of Howbeck Lodge. After careful inspection she selected Mitchells Auction Co Suckled Calf Trophy for Champion to S Hardisty & Son, How Hall, Ennerdale with their outstanding 8m old Limousin Steer which later sold for the days top price of £1750 purchased by Mr B Park.
A wonderful show of Steers also produced the next top price at £1300 for the 2nd prized Limousin from I&R Millard, Old Hyton, Bootle whilst the Reserve Champion from J&E Nichol, Whinnerah, a British Blue Steer sold for £1280.
Heifer calves sold to a top of £1110 for a Blonde D’Aquitaine from E Noble, Mill Farm, Beckermet.
A good show of Bulls sold to an extreme trade topping at £1360 for a pure Limousin from M Slater, Rose Cottage, Beckermet.
A special prize was given by the Border Charolais Club for the best animal sired by a Charolais and was awarded to the Heifer from GD Strawson, Muncaster Head, Eskdale which later sold for £1000.
All in all another wonderful days trading was had by all at this highlight of the Mitchells Calendar.
