Store cattle

 

A good entry of store cattle maintained high rates with the strongest and best fleshed cattle receiving a premium.

 

Top price of £1485 was paid for an Angus Steer from CR&SH Trafford, Ullock Mains, Ullock. Joint top price of £1485 was also paid for a Limousin Heifer from Messrs Crowe, Hall Santon, Holmrook. Bulls topped at £1320 for a Hereford from J Tunstall, High Abbey, Wythop.

Today we held The Annual Fellmans’ Gather sale of 6796 Store Lambs. Strong and medium type lambs sold to a strong trade with keen demand around the ringside. Long keep lambs proved difficult to place with increasing costs and inflation evidently affecting buying confidence.

 

Top price was £101 for Texel lambs from TA&J Brownrigg, How Hill, Hesket New Market. The large entry of fell lambs topped at £61 for Swaledale Wethers from J Roper, Bleak House, Frizington with others to £60 from Messrs Wills, Stanley Terrace, Embleton. Herdwicks sold to £60 for a pen from G&A Crayston & Son, Thornholme, Calderbridge.

Breeding sheep continued to meet a firm enquiry selling to £145 for Texel ewes from WB&SA Steele, Easthwaite, Wasdale and Mules to £130 from the same good home. Herdwick ewes topped at £98 twice, both times for 2 crops from WS Jackson, Croft House, Parsonby.
