On Wednesday 9th November Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock comprising of 86 cattle including 9 prime bulls and clean cattle and 77 cast cows, 2,126 prime sheep including 1741 lambs and 385 cast ewes and rams.
Prime cattle sold to a top price of 270ppk twice, both times for Limousin Bulls from RE Miller, West Farm, Aspatria who also sold the top gross at £1906.20 for one of the for one of his other entries.

Another bumper entry with vendors taking advantage of the strong trade being achieved week on week. Top price of 232p for a British Blue cow from D&C Crowe, Wood End Farm, Ulpha. Limousin cows sold to 192p from DE Allen, High Nook, Loweswater. Top gross was £1620.22 for a Lincoln Red cow from SPE Hill, Lowfields Farm, Holmrook. Black and Whites sold to a whopping £1421.28 for a Holstein Friesian from Messrs Wood, Allerby Mill, Aspatria.
The large entry of Holstein Friesian cows sold to average £1048.50 for all sold.

Prime Sheep
Another welcome rise in trade produced fantastic returns leaving vendors delighted. Top of £176 for a Beltex lamb from TA Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, Aspatria purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butcher, Station Street, Cockermouth. Others to £173 for a Texel from Messrs Fraser, High Flatts, Gilcrux purchased by Mr J Bosworth.
Top pence per kilo was 340ppk for Beltex lambs from J&E Scott & Son, Mid Farm, Torpenhow purchased by Mr M Helliwell. Others to 337.5ppk from Messrs Sharp, Holmecroft, Beckermet.
A large entry of lightweight lambs were very good to sell meeting keen demand. A pen of 20 Texel X Herdwick lambs from P Bland & J Barnes, Knott Houses, Grasmere sold to £83 for 33kg (251.5ppk).
