On Wednesday 16th November Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock comprising of 62 cull cattle and 7 prime cattle, 2494 prime sheep including 1974 prime lambs and 420 cast ewes and rams.
Prime Cattle sold to a wonderful trade topping at 281ppk or a whopping £2096.26 for a Limousin Steer from Messrs JJ Crichton, Loughrigg, St. Bees. Heifers sold to 280p or £1982.40 again from Messrs JJ Crichton, Loughrigg, St. Bees.

Another good entry of cast cows as more and more vendors reap the benefits of the Cockermouth ring. Top of 239ppk for a young British Blue cow from JP Lister, Oughterside Mill, Aspatria. Limousin cows sold to 238p for a youngster from RW&JH Emmott, Wythop Hall, Cockermouth. Older cows to 228p for a Limousin cow from Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle. W Rawling & Son, Hollins, Ennerdale sold a 10 year old Simmental cow for 198ppk. Top gross was a humungous £1944.84 for a Limousin cow from Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh.
Dairy cows sold to 189p for a 10 year old British Friesian from M Irving & Sons, Weary Hall, Mealsgate which was also the top gross at £1466.64. Holstein Friesian cows sold to £1395.52 from R&M Allison, Barnyard, Greysouthen whilst others to £1341.60 from Dundraw Farms, Wigton.

Cockermouth bucked the trend this week easily maintaining last weeks high rates and no easing in trade at all. Top of £186 for a Texel lamb from Messrs Fraser, High Flatts, Gilcrux purchased by Tony Harrison, Butcher, Main Street, Cockermouth. Others to £180 for a Charollais from D&LD Norman, Kirkhouse, Setmurthy purchased by Mr J Bosworth. Beltex lambs to £180 from G Gate, Hollins Farm, Eaglesfield.
Top per kilo was 324.3ppk for Beltex lambs from Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle.
Fell lambs sold to £82 for a pen of 38kg pure Herdwick wethers from Messrs Bland, Clea Hall, Westward.
