On Friday 6th January 2023 Mitchells Auction Mart started their 150th year celebrations with their opening show and sale of 1070 store cattle and feeding bulls. A noted sale which draws buyers for all over the UK to see an unbelievable show of quality stock throughout the catalogue. The pre-sale show was judged by two exceptional stocksman, John and Richard Dixon of Lesson Hall, Wigton.
They awarded the championship to the Limousin bullock consigned by M/s I Powley, Green Marsh which later sold for £1430 purchased by the judges. Reserve champion was awarded to the Limousin heifer which was consigned by RW & JH Emmott, Wythop Hall selling for £1700 and purchased by Mr Allan Barnett, Shap.
Leading the sale at £2150 was a classy Charolais heifer which was consigned by Mrs J Hardisty, How Hall and purchased by Amy Wilson, Hard Rigg Hall.
This sale was seen by many as electric and something to savour for the industry as a whole, not to mention Mitchell’s auction.
The full sale average was an unthinkable £1213.20
