Tommy Baxter Show & Sale of Store Cattle

The Tommy Baxter Show and Sale of store cattle could not be held back by the weather and a storming good trade prevailed being as dear as has been witnessed anywhere. The quality on offer was unmatched and had to be seen to be believed.

The show was kindly sponsored by Hundith Hill Hotel, Carrs Billington, Brockbanks Solicitors and Gates Tyres. Judging was in the esteemed hands of Mr Nathan Grainger, Glasson who carried out a most thorough and professional job.

The Baxter Perpetual Trophy for Champion was awarded to Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle with their 9 month old Haltered British Blue Heifer which later sold for £2300. Reserve honours also went to Messrs Powley with their Limousin Steer which sold for £1700.

Outwith the show the top price of £2175 was achieved for a 14m old Limousin Bull from P Edmondson, Seathwaite Farm, Borrowdale.

Forward stores topped at £2105 for a 22m old Charolais Steer from MJ&JE Graham, Lynedraw Farm, Ireby.
