On Wednesday 12th April 2023 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock comprising of 23 cast cows, 12 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1191 prime sheep including 1023 prime hoggs and 168 cast ewes and rams.
Prime bulls sold to a ferocious trade topping at 315p for a Limousin bull from Messrs JH Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle. Top gross was £2053.44 for a British Blue from RE Miller, West Farm, Wigton.

Prime hoggs took a massive lift on the week being far beyond everyone’s wildest dreams.
Top price of £225 for a pair of Beltex hoggs from S&D Peile, Parkgate Hall, Waverton purchased by J Bosworth,. Top per kilo was 415.8ppk for Beltex hoggs from I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle.
A huge entry of fell hoggs turned out topping at 317.5ppk for Herdwicks from P Bland & J Barnes, Knott Houses, Grasmere. Top per head was £148 for two pens of Herdwicks from CI Hartley, Barfield, Bootle.
