Prime Sheep
32 spring lambs came forward selling to a marvellous trade delighting vendors. Top of £216 for a Texel lamb from G Butler, Moor Platt, St Bees purchased by Wilson Willis Butcher, High Street, Cleator Moor. Others to £212 for a Charollais from D&LD Norman, Kirkhouse, Setmurthy. Lambs averaged 372ppk or £166.90. Many more could have been well sold and are required on a weekly basis.
Prime hoggs in keen demand as numbers dry up nationally. Top of £212 for a Texel hogg from G Gate, Hollins Farm, Eaglesfield purchased by W Lindsay & Son, Butcher, Station Street, Cockermouth. Top per kilo was 407.7ppk for another Texel again from G Gate, Hollins Farm.
A large entry of fell hoggs came forward topping at £138 for Herdwicks from P&PI Walker, Beechcroft, Mockerkin or 304.5pppk for Herdwicks from T&MD Beaty, Langhorn, Egremont.
