On Wednesday Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock comprising of 63 cattle consisting of 48 cows and 15 prime cattle, 1764 sheep including 81 spring lambs, 1030 hoggs and 653 cast ewes and rams.

Top of £190 for a Texel lamb from JD Hetherington & Son, Blue Dial, Allonby purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butchers, Station Street, Cockermouth. Top per kilo was 406.8ppk for Texels from DW&DM Elliott, Bank House, Mungrisedale.

A seasonal show of hoggs forward consisting mainly of fell sheep. Trade slightly easier than last weeks highs but very pleasing all the same. Top of £194 for a Texel hogg from G Gate, Hollins Farm, Eaglesfield purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butcher, Station Street, Cockermouth. Top per kilo of 362.5ppk for Beltex hoggs from I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle.
Fell sheep topped at £148 for Herdwicks from DJN Eilbeck, Plumbland Farm, Plumbland. Herdwicks to 287.8ppk from R Brown, Forge Farm, Eskdale.
