The special 150th Anniversary Show and Sale attracted a wonderful catalogued entry of 851 with something to suit every requirement.
The day kicked off with a pleasing show of cattle kindly sponsored by R.A.F. Engineering Ltd, Rickerby Ltd, Dodd & Co and professionally judged by Mr Ricky Alder. After some deliberation the Championship rosette was awarded to Messrs I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle with their Limousin Steer which later sold for £1780. Reserve honours also went to Messrs Powley with their British Blue Heifer which sold for £1460.
Outwith the show, trade was very good being far in excess of expectations with plenty of optimism around the ring bucking recent beef trends. Top of £1995 for a pair of whopping Limousin Steers from M Irving & Sons, Weary Hall, Mealsgate. Others to £1905 from J&E Scott & Son, Mid Farm, Torpenhow. Heifers topped at £1875 for a Limousin from Miss J Litt, Greengill Farm, Gilcrux. £1865 achieved by WE Callion & Sons, Lodge Farm, Gt Clifton for a stylish Limousin.
Young bulls topped at £1445 for a Limousin from Messrs Knight, Stephney Farm, Calderbridge.
Next week sees the August show and sale of 2000 store lambs. Then on Friday 25th August is the next fortnightly sale of store and breeding cattle as well as store sheep. Entries to the office on 01900 822016.
