The yearly sale of 7403 Lakeland north of England mule gimmer lambs was conducted to a huge ringside of travelled buyers which have supported this sale for many years with a splash of new buyers whom are hearing how good our lambs are. This is something we are proud of here at Mitchells with credit being paid to our sellers for breeding a product which are wanted. lambs were slightly less in size on the year with July/August weather telling its toll.

 

The pre-sale show was judged by Charlie Mann, Warwick and Jonjoe Morris, Northamptonshire with Lloyd cleave our referee.  the sale sponsors were Carrs Billington hundith hill hotel, Lakeland trailers, Wm Armstrong Longtown ltd and Agri Lloyd

 

the championship was awarded to m/s folder Wescoe who received both the johnny Matterson memorial cup and the NEMSA rosette for the highest place NEMSA bred lambs. These later sold for £400 and purchased by Morris, Glebe Farm.

Reserve was also awarded to this home with there second placed large breeder’s pen and took the leading price of the day of £500 and purchased by M\s Brough, Clappers

 

The Jim Peet trophy presented for the best runs of lambs which was sponsored by Agri Lloyd went to P&PI Walker Beechcroft for his 460 lambs which averaged £140.56. Thanks to David and Mary Elliot bank house for judging.

 

 

The Mart Average was £120.87 + £4.05

Saturday 16th September

Day two of our harvest of the hills commenced with continental gimmer lambs selling to outstanding prices.

Leading the way was a very tidy pen of 6 Pure Texel ewe lambs from G Wilkinson, Brookfield selling for £185.00.

Ellie Stamper, Moresby followed up closely with her run of very well-bred gimmer lambs which averaged £173.33.

Continental gimmer lambs were in demand with local buyers dominating the section.

 

Store lambs followed with a ring side of buyers from all parts of the country, looking to keep their grass in order.

What was to follow was a bidding frenzy from start to finish.

Ms Allan & Dickinson, Windrush led the averages with their consignment averaging £127.55.
