On Wednesday 20th September 2023 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock comprising of 66 Cast Cows, prime cattle, 1680 prime sheep including 1134 prime lambs and 546 cast ewes and rams.

Prime cattle topped out at 325ppk for a wonderful black Limousin heifer from Lane Head which was purchased by Thomas Fell.
Cast cows continue to come forward here at Mitchells in greater number with our ring very competitive with buyers and vendors realising the best place to be is selling live to support themselves with great returns.
Leading the sale was an outstanding black Limousin cow from Robert and Judith Emmott which sold for 246ppk (£1549.80).
A mention needs placed with Allan and Rita Rawling topping with a Limousin cow at £1584.22.
Anthony Brough was leading the dairy cast cow prices at £1536.48.

Prime Sheep
The prime lamb ring continues to be competitive with 8 active buyers. This week witnessed a lift in trade for well fleshed finished lambs throughout the sale. An overall average of £114.50 for all sold.
Butcher type lambs selling well over the £150 barrier on numerous occasions.
Leading prices per head was a texel lamb from the Gate family Hollins £182 and purchased by Tony Harrison butchers Cockermouth. Matching this trade was a Beltex lamb from Trevor and Elaine Johnstone, Briary Bank which was purchased by lindsay butchers Cockermouth.
