Primestock

On Wednesday 11th October 2023 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 66 cattle comprising 62 cull cattle and 4 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1627 prime sheep including 1243 lambs and 384 cast ewes and rams.

 

Prime Bull (Top price per kilo – pence):- Limousin – 247 Waites Farm

Cast cows sold to a sharp trade being in keen demand. Top of 238p or £1884.96 for a Limousin from F Buchanan, Roan Croft, Hayton. Black and whites to 202p from Greening Ltd, Waverbank or £1404.20 for a Holstein Friesian from CW&RW Gott, Burton House, Tallentire.

Sheep

 

All classes of lambs sold to a brisk trade being sharper again on the week. Top of £186 for a Texel lamb from TW Johnstone, Briary Bank, Bothel purchased by Tony Harrison, Butcher, Main Street, Cockermouth. Others to £184 for a Texel from Messrs Fraser, High Flatts, Gilcrux purchased by W Lindsay & Sons, Butcher, Station Street, Cockermouth.  

 

Top per kilo was 365.9p for Beltex lambs from T Pearson & Son, High Plaskettlands, Mawbray. Texels to 339.6ppk from Messrs Fraser, High Flatts.

 

Several outstanding runs of well finished shapely lambs produced outstanding averages unrivalled anywhere.
