On Friday 3rd November 2023 Mitchells Auction Co. Ltd held their fortnightly sale of Store and Breeding Cattle as well as the second sale of Suckled Calves with a catalogued entry of 300 store lambs, 25 breeding cattle, 119 suckled calves and 378 store cattle.
Store Sheep
Store lambs continue to attract keen demand selling to a top of £100 for Texel lambs from S Astley, Watergate, Loweswater.

Breeding Cattle-
The annual consignment of In- Calf Heifers from W&PA Walton, Low Kinmont, Corney was the highlight of the breeding cattle section continuing to attract both regular and new buyers year on year. This outstanding consignment topped at £3300 for a Limousin Heifer in-calf to Eniver Supreme. A whopping average of £2650 was achieved for this great run.

Suckled Calves
The Second sale of Suckled calves pulled in a keen ringside of purchasers. With calves noticeably smaller than the first sale, trade would be similar and very pleasing. Top of £1205 for a Blonde Heifer from E Noble, Mill Farm, Beckermet. Steers to £1185 for a pair of 7m old British Blues from GE&MG Dixon, Hilltop, Nr Sawrey. Bulls to £1100 for a Limousin from W&HI Watson, Norman Farm, Caldbeck.

Store Cattle
A good entry of cattle whereby well grown and fleshed cattle maintained recent high rates. Leaner stores looked slightly less on the fortnight.
The show was professionally judged by Mr James Crichton who selected a Limousin Heifer from I&R Millard, Old Hyton Farm, Bootle as his Champion. This super heifer later sold for £1700 to Mr A Dyson.
Outwith the show top of £1785 for a Limousin Steer from PE&M Capstick, Whicham Hall, Whicham who sold a great run to average £1673.75. British Blue steers to £1625 from A&M Roberts, Riggingill, Greysouthen. British Blue Heifers to £1635 from AJ Wood, Woodhall Brow, Dean.
