Saturday 25th November- Christmas Prize Show and Sale of Prime Cattle

Mitchell’s auction co ltd held the annual Christmas show and sale of prime cattle on Saturday 25th November 2023. A staggering entry was attracted of 256 which has never been seen before. This fitting for our 150th year celebration.

The show was kindly sponsored by Carrs Billington ltd, hundith hill hotel, marsh commercial, , Brockbank solicitors and RI stampers haulage.

 

The pre-sale show was judged by father and son team. Roger and Andrew Webster of Taylors farm shop, Ormskirk. whom have been great supporters to us.

Roger and Andrew passed comment that the stock on show was a testament to the vendors and breeders and a pleasure to see, undoubtedly one of the best in the country.

 

After 3 hours of judging in an outstanding manor the championship was awarded to

 Lot 5   limousin x heifer from Mr JA Barnett, Brinns farm , Shap Receiving the Mitchells silver challenge cup and £400 cash, limousin society plate.  She later went under the hammer selling for 480ppk (£3081.60) purchased by Browns quality meats, diamonds buildings , Pennington lane

Reserve honours was awarded to lot 232 the Charolais heifer from I & R Millard Old Hyton, Millom receiving Mr and Mrs peter Greenhill, trophy £100 cash, also the British Charolais cattle society plaque.  She sold for 490ppk (£3949.40) purchased by Chris Bell on behalf of Kitson ltd, 25 southside Northallerton. This beast also took the leading price per kilo and head.

 

The sale was later conducted to a packed ringside of buyers and Spector’s whom all were in Orr of the standard of quality Lake District stock bred in the county. Bidding was brisk throughout from butchers , wholesalers and farmers looking to own some tremendous cattle from this renowned  Christmas sale .

We should all be proud of the British agricultural industry and look to support those that support us.

 

A highlight of the evening was also a pre-sale award given to Mr Tommy Bradley for his support to Mitchells Auction Company for over 63 years.

We also offered a toy tractor and trailer donated by our auctioneers for charity whom had invited Young Farmer William aged 10 to sell. He smashed it and was a real natural making £300 with the proceeds going to SUDC UK.
