On Wednesday 17th January 2024, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with Cattle comprising of 62 Prime Cattle and Cast Cows; 1296 Sheep including 1150 Prime Lambs and 146 Cast Ewes and Rams.
Cast Cows were a wonderful trade with dairy types much sharper averaging 163ppk. Beef bred cows sold to a strong trade with £2 a kilo easily obtained.
Leading the day was a cast Limousin bull from Lamplugh Hall which made £1846.28.
Cows were up to £1667.52 for a Limousin from Meadow Farm. Their 3 cows averaged a marvellous £1600.
Young prime bulls are certainly needed here a Mitchells with Alan Williamson, South View reaping the rewards with his continental dairy bred bulls averaging £1607.

£212 was the leading price for an outstanding pair of Texel hoggs from Geoff Smith, Kelmore hills and purchased by Tony Harrison Butchers, Cockermouth.
A further 15 hoggs topped over £200 per head with many more required.
Hill bred hoggs sold exceptionally well with WCG Holdings selling a pen of 32 Swaledale hoggs 43kg £114 (259ppk). Issac Benson was smiling after his days trading, his run of 59 pure Herdwick hoggs levelled at £116 (271ppk).
