Market Report for Wednesday 2024
On Wednesday 10th April 2024, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of 1771 primestock with 58 Cattle comprising of 13 Prime Cattle and 45 cast cows: 1713 sheep including 1406 prime hoggs and 307 cast ewes and rams.
This week we had an improved entry of cast cows, when offered to an increased attendance of customers met spirited competition with the trade remaining at high levels.

Prime Hoggs sold to a whopping £268.00 paid for a tremendous Texel from AJ Wood, Woodhall Brow this hogg was purchased by local butcher Tony Harrison, Main Street, Cockermouth.
Tony who supports week in week out also purchased the wonderful consignment of five hoggs from G Gate, Hollins Farm.
David & Jordan Winder, Midtown Farm, Plumbland had an outstanding consignment of 36 hoggs which averaged 48.56kg and sold to average £226.86. Amongst this consignment was a pen of 45kg at 526.70ppk purchased by another loyal supporter Richard Wilson Butcher, Main Street, Egremont.
J Brown & Son, Crakeplace Hall sold 72 hoggs at an average weight of 47.68kg (£201.19) some of these hoggs went and sold to another local butcher Haighs, Pow Street, Workington for £228.00.
