Market Report for Wednesday 2024
On Wednesday 24th April 2024, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 69 Cattle comprising of 50 Prime Cattle and 19 cast cows; 1503 sheep including 1288 prime hoggs and cast 215 ewes and rams.
We held our Lake District sale of prime cattle.
Topping the pence per kilo section was a tremendous Limousin Heifer from J&E Scott & Son, Mid Farm weighing 633kg selling for 335ppk purchased by weekly supporter Thomas Fell.
Top price per head was £2314.41 paid for a outstanding British Blue Steer weighing 749kg shown by RE Miller, West Farm, Aspatria and purchased by another weekly supporter N Bowe.
Leading the bull section was a 11-month-old Charolais bull from I&R Millard, Old Hyton Farm weighing 668kg going under the hammer at 285ppk grossing at £1903.80.

Another outstanding entry of prime sheep were submitted, which once again comprised of predominantly fell bred sheep and again they sold to prices up to and above vendors expectations.
The top price (per head) of the day was £280.00 paid for tremendous Beltex hoggs from S&D Peile, Parkgate Hall, Wigton and purchased by local butcher Tony Harrison, Main Street, Cockermouth.
Pence per kilo honours went to AJ Wood, Woodhall Brow Farm, Dean selling Beltex hoggs for 502.60ppk.
