On Wednesday 1st May 2024, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 27 Cattle comprising of Prime Cattle and cast cows: 1410 sheep including 10 prime lambs, 1033 prime hoggs and 367 cast ewes and rams.
With less cow numbers forward due to the good wether conditions. All classes made spirited competition and mentioned recent high rates.
Top price cow of the day was a Limousin from Ms Richardson, Low Garth, Bewaldeth weighing in at 734kg (243ppk) going under the hammer at £1783.60, this also was top price per head for the cow section.
Top price per kilo was awarded to a young Limousin Bull from Ms Teasdale, Low Side Farm, Troutbeck selling for 279ppk (£1598.67) and purchased by weekly supporter T Fell.
Top price per head was £1708.15 for a young Limousin Bull from Ms Grey, East Mill Farm, Aspatria.

Top Price was a Texel ewe from G Wilkinson, Arkleby House which sold for £245.00.
Prime Hoggs sold to £290 paid for Texels from A&D Smith, Kelmore Hills these were purchased by T Harrison Butcher, Main Street, Cockermouth.
Top price per kilo was 478.60 reached by a Texel from G Gate, Hollins Farm this was purchased by Haighs Workington Ltd, Butchers, Workington.
