On Wednesday 3rd July 2024, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 25 Cattle comprising of 2 Prime Cattle and 23 cast cows; 685 sheep including 366 prime lambs, 123 prime hoggs and 196 cast ewes and rams.
Fleshed cows met a brisk trade, the resulting prices were in line with recent sales. More cows are required to meet the buying demand.
Beef bred cows averaged 200p/kg topping at 217p/kg (£1,614) from G & T Tyson, East House; dairy Bred cows averaged 180p/kg.

A smaller entry of lambs met a steady trade due to the declining national demand, the overall average of 306.51p/Kg was in line with the recent market trend. The sale topped at £234 (450p/Kg) for a texel shown by Lee Smith, Low Wreah.

Ewes met a much sharper trade, Continental ewes regularly making over £170 up to £198; well fleshed Mules were sold up to £150 from Low Wreah Farmhouse. Swaledales topped at £98 from T Trafford & Son, Peter House and Herdwicks sold very well up to £129 from G & T Tyson, East House. Numbers were short of requirements.
