MITCHELLS AUCTION CO LTD - Market Report for Wednesday 7th August 2024
On Wednesday 7th August, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth, held their weekly sale of primestock with 32 Cattle comprising of 9 Prime Cattle and 23 cast cows and bulls: 1274 sheep including 913 prime lambs and 361 cast ewes and rams.
Cast cows topped at £1966.85 for a well fleshed Limouin cow weighing 695kg from I & R Millard, Old Hyton. Top pence per kilo was 248ppk (£1678.96) paid for a British Blue cow from Miss C Millard, Old Hyton. Well fleshed cows and prime cattle again sold to a premium.

An excellent ring of buyers was forward for the cull ewes with well fleshed ewes selling at extreme prices, in advance of vendors expectations. Ewes topped at £236.00 for an outstanding Texel from MJ Lawson, Pasture House.
A larger entry of lambs was forward and presented to an increased ring of buyers, ensuring all classes were competitively bid for. Well finished lambs and light fleshed lambs continuing to command a premium rate with leaner lambs seeing a slight reduction on the week but staying in line with national averages.
