Market Report for Wednesday 21st August 2024

 

On Wednesday 21st August 2024, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth, held their weekly sale of primestock with 18 Cattle comprising of 2 Prime Cattle, 14 cast cows and 2 bulls,1211 sheep including 825 prime lambs and 386 cast ewes and rams.

 

Clean cattle sold to 272p per kg and £1585.76 paid for a Limousin Heifer shown by W Gray & Sons, East Mill, Aspatria. 

Bulls sold to 280p and £1675.08 for a Limousin cross from J Pattinson & Son, Uldale Hall, Wigton.

Cast cows topped at £1588.80(240 ppk) for a Limousin cow weighing 662 kg from GS Bell, Newhouse Farm, Flimby.

Top pence per kilo was 268 pence per kg paid for an Angus from FA & J Stockdale, Crosshow Farm, Dearham.

In today’s sale we held our young handlers prize show and sale of spring lambs. Taking top honours as Champion was Zoe Sanderson showing a Beltex lamb making £205 which was later bought by T. Harrison Butchers, Cockermouth. Reserve Champion was won by Jackson Cranston he too had a Beltex Lamb that he showed making £158 and bought by Lancashire Direct.

Top price per kilo and joint top price per head in the prime lambs came from George Gate, Rook Farm, with a Beltex lamb at 451ppk or £230 purchased by Tony Harrison Butchers, Cockermouth. From the same home William Stephenson showed a texel lamb also selling for £230 purchased by Wilsonwillis Butchers, Cleator Moor.
