On Wednesday 25th September, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth, held their weekly sale of primestock with 49 Cattle: 1902 sheep including 1362 prime lambs and 540 cast ewes and rams.

 

Today we had a larger show of cattle forward.

Top price per head and per kilo in the cast cow section was a tremendous Limousin cow from I&R Millard, Old Hyton Farm.

 

A decent show of dairy bred bulls was seen through the ring, with the top price being £1431.00 per head and 256ppk for a Holstein Friesian from WE&DE Litt, Greengill Farm.

A larger show of ewes was seen in the market today. With the majority of the sale being fell bred.

Topping the ewe section was an outstanding Texel from W Fraser, High Flatts, this ewe went under the hammer at £200.00. Hill ewes sold to a top of £128.00 for a Cheviot ewe from D Harrison, Brotherilkeld. All classes of ewes are in demand selling inline with other markets.

A show of 1362 well finished prime lambs were forward today, selling in line with other local markets.

Top price of the day was a belter of a texel lamb from W Fraser, High Flatts – this lamb weighed 58kg and sold to weekly and local supporter T Harrison Butchers, Main Street, Cockermouth. Top pence per kilo was 364.60ppk for a Beltex lamb from A Fearon, Kirklands Farm.

Prime Lambs sold to a average of 290.29ppk.
