Show & Sale of Herdwick Draft Ewes, Gimmer Twinters and Gimmer Lambs also other Hill breed

What a two day Mitchells Auction Company have had!! The first day set off with a fantastic entry of 8673 Herdwick Draft Ewes. The day set off with a wonderful show of Draft Ewes, Shearlings and Gimmer Lambs.

 

Judging the pre-sale show was conducted by Mr Paul Naylor, Bowderdale. A big thank you goes to our sale day sponsors: TW Relph & Sons, Robinson & Co Accountants, TL Dallas Insurance and Hundith Hill Hotel.

 

Paul handed the championship rosette to an outstanding pen of ewes from P&J Bland, Knott Houses which later went on and sold for £360.00 per head. Reserve honours went to A Hartley, Turner Hall these sheep also went under the hammer at £360.00 per head.

 

The ring was packed to the rafters with people from all corners of the UK. All vendors went home very satisfied, with sheep selling above and beyond expectations. Ewes sold to a overall average of £90.00 per head - this is a £10 increase on the year, Shearlings averaged £122.00 per head – similar to 2023, Gimmer Lambs averaged £61.21 per head – which was up on 2023.

The evening sale of continental rams went down like a treat with 120 rams forwards. Rams sold to a packed ringside with the top price of the night being £820.00 for a Texel shearling ram from KG Holliday, Strudda Bank.

Annual “Keswick” Prize Show & Sale of 362 Registered Herdwick Rams

A tremendous show of 362 Herdwick Rams entered the auction mart.

Judging the pre-sale show was Hannah Dickinson, Brockstones and Isacc Benson, Meadow Bank Farm.

The show ring was packed with quality, with many keen bidders overseeing the judging. After much time and deliberation Hannah and Isacc handed the championship rosette to Anthony Hartley, Turner Hall and the reserve honours to S Hardisty & Son, How Hall.

 

The sale ring was full of keen eyed purchasers. The resulting sale was massive success with rams selling to the North of Scotland and the South of Devon.

The sale started off with a tremendous trade, this was maintained throughout the sale.

Top price of the day was 12500gns this was paid for a Shearling Ram from The Bland Family, Mirkholme – purchased by Mr P Naylor, Bowderdale.

29 Rams sold for 2000gns and over, with the whole sale averaging 1108gns (an increase of 490gns on the year) this being a 90% clearance.
