On Wednesday 16th September, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth, held their weekly sale of primestock with 58 Cattle, sheep including prime lambs and cast ewes and rams.
All classes of cattle were a good trade, with well finished cows selling to a premium. Prime bulls sold to a sharp trade with many more needed to fulfill buyers requirements.

Pure bred ewes were regularly selling £170.00 plus with smaller continental bred ewes full of meat £120.00 to £130.00.
Mule ewes sold to £126.00 from DWT Horner, Arlecdon Hill Farm with the best mule ewes regularly selling £110.00 to £120.00. Hill bred ewes saw Herdwicks sell to £93.00 from PM Blair, Miller Place Farm. With Swaledales selling to £75.00 from Halstead & Watton, Gill Farm.

Lambs sold to £200.00 for Texels form W&E Gate, Rook Farm who sold others to £198.00, with Beltex’s selling to £193.00 from W Fraser, High Flatts. The bets butcher lambs were regularly selling to £170.00 to £180.00 per head. heavy bred lambs saw a sharper trade on the week with these (50kg +) they were regularly selling 290-295ppk.
More hill bred lambs were on offer with a ring full of 46kg mules from AG&KF Nicholson, Swinside End Farm selling for £126.00 per head, with other selling for £125.00 from WE&DE Litt, Greengill Farm.
