Monday 7th October, we held our Annual Show & Sale of Bluefaced Leicester Rams and Swaledale Rams.

Judging was in the capable hands of Mr Murray Craig, Thrimby Farms. Sponsors for the day was David Allen Accountants.

A tremendous show of Leicester rams was put in front of Murray, after much time Murray handed the championship rosette to shearling ram from W&PA Walton & Son, Low Kinmont, which later went under the hammer at £900.00 selling to Ms Harryman, Keskadale. Reserve honours was awarded to a Ram Lamb from JH Crichtlow, Bridge End which later sold for £600.00 to GM Sibson, Burnside.  

After the Leicester Rams Murray had the job of judging the Swaledale Rams, catching his eye for the championship was an aged ram from JA Ritson, Baggra Yeat which sold for £1500.00 to JE&A Wilson, Far End. Reserve championship honours also going to the same farm for a Shearling Ram which sold for £900.00 to JE&A Wilson, Far End.

With a catalogued entry of 2107 Swaledale Draft Ewes the auction mart was full off quality.

The pre-sale show had a fantastic show of sheep forward, the judging was in the hands of Mr Stephen Allen, Hill Croft and Mr Jack Roper, Kirkland House Farm.

After much deliberation the championship rosette was awarded to EJ&RJ Wear, Howe Green this pen of ewes later went under the hammer at £250 per head to the judge Mr Allen, Hill Croft. Reserve honours went to the second prize ewes from S Hardisty & Son, How Hall selling for £255.00 per head to KN&CA Heath, Sutton End.

The sale ring was full of potential buyers both local and from afar. Draft ewes averaged £112.00; Shearlings averaged £156.00.
