Mitchells Auction Company held their annual Christmas Show & Sale of Prime Cattle.
A pleasing entry of 144 was forward, the show was kindly sponsored by Brockbank Solicitors, RI Stampers Haulage and Hundith Hill Hotel. The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Mr. Paul Gentry on behalf of Wooley Brothers, who we thank for his time and expertise. Paul commented on what tremendous run of cattle were forward which was a testament to all vendors and breeders of these cattle.
After much deliberation the championship rosette was awarded to lot number 351 a tremendous British Blue heifer from JA Barnett, Brinns Farm, Shap who was presented the Mitchells Silver Challenge Cup. Reserve Honours also went to JA Barnett, Brinns Farm, Shap for a Limousin Heifer, Mr. Barnett was awarded the Mr&Mrs Peter Greenhill Trophy and the Limousin Society Plate.
The sale started to a packed ring side of buyers and spectators who were in orr of the standard of the quality of the Lake District stock bred in this County. Bidding was fast and furious throughout the sale. 15 lots sold 400ppk or more, 32 sold to £2500.00 or more, which just shows what a tremendous show of cattle were on show here at Mitchells.
The sale sold to a top of £4396.00 (700ppk) from JA Barnett, Brinns Farm. With Limousins selling to £3173.00 (372ppk) from S Wood, Channel House Farm. Also selling over the £3000.00 bracket was a Limouin Heifer which sold at £3101.00 (490ppk) from JA Barnett, Brinns Farm.
