Market Report for Wednesday 27th November 2024
On Wednesday 27th November, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth, held their weekly sale of primestock with 34 Cattle: 2144 sheep including 1780 prime lambs and 343 cast ewes and 21 rams.
Today we had 34 cattle forward, topping the cast cow section was a tremendous Limousin from G&AE Marrs&Son, Cathow Farm, weighing 765kg going under the hammer at 265.50ppk grossing £2031.08.
Prime Bulls topped per head at £2031.08 for a well fleshed Simmental from T A Byers, Ellenbank Farm. Top pence per kilo was 295.50ppk was a Simmental from the same home.
Many more cows could have been sold to a demanding ringside of buyers.

Topping the ewe ring was a whopper of a Texel from W Fraser, High Flatts going under the hammer at £227.00, closely behind was a Texel from Ms Cartmell, High Low Hall selling for £200.00. Rams sold to £200.00 for a Texel from JR Weir, Elva Plain Farm. These were all bought by weekly supporter Mr Alam, Lancashire Direct Halal. All types of ewes are easily handled here at Cockemrouth with an active ringside of 10 buyers forward.

1780 lambs entered the market today. Taking top price per head was a tremendous texel from W Fraser, High Flatts selling for £206.00. Top pence per kilo was 391.70ppk for a tremendous Beltex lamb from J&JK Spedding, Salter Hall. Our full ringside of buyers ensured a sharp trade was seen for all types throughout the sale, light lambs were especially in high demand, and this will continue up until Christmas.
